Could It Get Any Better?

Pinch me

October14

HOLY COW! Just saw the newly release AP25 for college football and USF is ranked #2. That’s right — #2 in the nation!! We are on top of the Big East standings, but with a slew of intraconference games coming up. Too bad Cincinnati lost; I thought that game would sell out Raymond James if they were both undeated. Ohio State is #1 but they are going into the tougher part of their season. And after seeing how Penn State can play at home, they better beware.

ETA: The BCS rankings are out now and USF is at #3. #3? I’m not going to quibble with that at this point.

I LOVE Mondays

October1

Yeah, I know; I’m kind of sick that way. But really — you are rested & relaxed from the weekend, you have a clean slate, and lots of hope and energy for the week ahead. Isn’t it great? Well, it’s even better when the Bucs beat the Carolina Panthers, the USF Bulls end up #6 on the AP Poll, and the Supreme Court starts a new session with the hope of improving rights for terrorism detainees. I wonder if the White House and Congress will try to circumvent the Court’s ruling for a 3rd time? Also, at the end of the month, the government will ask the justices to overturn an appeals court ruling that struck down a provision of the main federal law against child pornography. The lower court said the portion in question criminalizes merely talking about illegal images. Now, if they could just find a way to read our minds, we would all be so much safer.

Go Bulls!

September29

Amazing game last night! The USF Bulls (18) defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers (5) in front of a sold-out Raymond James Stadium. Sherman & I were watching along in high-def thanks to ESPN2. The defense was just overwhelming, particularly in the first half. Both teams turned the ball over too much, but USF was on the winning side of that battle. WVU was able to convert on way too many 3rd/4th and long, but their mistakes often got in the way of their progress. I think Jim Leavitt has a lot to be proud of — his team is playing tough, physical football. Today several teams ranked higher than USF have a possibility of losing. Either #6 or #11 will fall, that’s a given. We’ll have to wait until Sunday to see how the rankings shake up, but no matter what the final result:

GO BULLS!
